Mondongo Collective – by  3 Argentinian  artists

Juliana Laffitte [b. 1974]

Manuel Mendanha [ b. 1976]

Agustina Picasso [b. 1977]

The Skull Series [2009 / plasticine] The trio of artists from Argentina who formed the Mondongo Collective  – Augustine Picasso, Manuel Mendanha and Juliana Laffitte – use the skull in their work as a potent political symbol. Against a backdrop patterned to evoke information technology, the skull cap combines the architecture of European and American power with the fairy tale form of a gingerbread house, while the jawbone features small houses evoking the slums near Argentinian cities. A small series of books from western literature and numeral for two billion seperate the neoclassical and richly fantastic architecture of top portion from the poverty depicted in the lower portion of the colossal skull form.

I have just received the last of Mondongo Skull Series. I was told by Manuel and Juliana that my skull would be the last. I commissioned it in 2010.

I thought it would be an interesting idea to try to connect all the Mondongo “Skull” collectors as I think the series viewed as a whole gains in significance and stature.

I believe that the series is a rare an original proxy of our consumer society and will become an important artistic political statement of our time.

I hope that you will accept my friendly invitation to somehow stay in touch – who knows where it might lead.

    Sincerely
    Francois
